WHAT HARDSCAPE COVERS AT OCIP

Everything you drive, walk and sit on.

Hardscape means the hard, built surfaces of a yard: driveway, patio and walks. As a hardscape contractor in Orange County, we build them in concrete and interlocking pavers, and every one starts with excavation.

We form and pour concrete driveways, patios and walks, place control joints on a plan, and finish the surface to suit the house and how it gets used.

Water has to leave every slab, so we set the slope into the grade before pouring, carrying rain away from the house and garage door.

POURED CONCRETE

A clear purpose for every surface.

Driveways

A concrete approach planned around vehicle use, the garage, the front walk and the home’s architecture.

Patios

A concrete patio sized for the furniture you own, with room to pull chairs out and an edge that meets the lawn cleanly.

Walkways

Front walks and side paths that line up with doors and gates and meet the driveway without a lip.

Concrete replacement

When an old driveway or patio has had its day, it all comes out, and new concrete goes onto a rebuilt base.

FINISH AND JOINTS

Texture for grip, joints for control.

Texture matters on surfaces that get wet. Discuss finish samples, intended use and maintenance alongside the appearance you want, especially on paths, patios and poolside areas.

Joints matter as much as finish. We plan control joints and expansion joints into the layout, including where the slab meets the house, garage or older paving.

WHERE SURFACES MEET

Concrete patios that tie into the yard.

A concrete patio may meet existing pavers, a planting bed or the house. A driveway may meet the front walk. Each join is planned for height and drainage.

Tell us what stays and what might change later. If a path or a bigger patio is on the wish list, today’s edges and joints can be set so the next phase ties in cleanly.

BEFORE WE POUR

Photograph, choose, confirm.

Three steps between your first call and a clear scope and price.

01

Photograph what’s there now

Snap the current surface, the edges where it meets the house and garage, and any spot where water sits after rain.

02

Choose the concrete finish

Bring photos of finishes you like, then agree on where the joints fall and how the concrete meets doors, gates and existing paving.

03

Confirm the full scope

Check that the estimate covers removal, base prep, forming, pouring, finish and cleanup. Ask about anything missing, and about warranty coverage, before work starts.

Before you begin.

A hardscape contractor works on the built surfaces of a property. At OCIP, that includes concrete driveways, patios and walkways, plus paver installations and pool decks. The scope considers the finished material, supporting construction, drainage and connections to the home and existing outdoor areas.

Size, removal and base work drive most of the price. A driveway that needs old concrete broken out and hauled away, or soft soil dug out and replaced with compacted base, costs more than a clean new pour. Finish, access for trucks and how the drive meets the garage also count. Estimates are free.

Control joints are planned grooves that give concrete a place to crack. Concrete shrinks as it cures and moves with temperature, so some cracking is normal; joints steer it into straight lines you barely notice. We place them as part of the layout, so they look deliberate rather than random.

Choose a finish with some texture, because a patio gets wet from rain, hoses and sprinklers. Beyond grip, it comes down to looks: how the color and texture sit beside the house and any paving you are keeping. Ask how each option wears before you pick.

OCIP’s published terms state that concrete cracks more than one eighth of an inch wide are covered, while hairline cracks are excluded. Read the complete warranty terms on this site and confirm their application in your written agreement before work begins.

We break out the old concrete, haul it away and check the ground underneath. Soft or uneven soil comes out and gets replaced with compacted base, then we form the new driveway or patio, set the slope and joints, pour and finish it. A sound base gives the new slab a better start than the old one had.
